My husband, Anthony Catanzaro, is known as a legend in the fitness industry. But more importantly, he is known as a genuinely caring man who has always helped others near and far out of the pure goodness of his heart and never once asked anyone for anything. His passion in life is to help others, to motivate, inspire and give people hope and faith, and to always believe in and live a healthy, happy, positive, filled life.
Then in June 2015, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease after not feeling well for 2 years prior, he started to notice that something was wrong—very wrong. “I got cramps in my left foot every time I began to walk.” Soon after that, he began to feel stiffness throughout his body. “Then I began to feel slowness on the left side of my body, and I knew something was wrong with my brain.”
Anthony is an inspiration to all , and while he has recently come out with his diagnosis, he still continues to inspire thousands each day with his pure power, faith, and positive attitude!
Tony has been unable to work for over four years now due to this terrible disease that has disabled him. A diagnosis of Parkinson's disease is life-changing and completely devastating to say the least. Especially when it hits someone as young as my husband, someone who never sat down and always did things around the house and worked so hard, never did any drugs and always lived a healthy lifestyle, to someone who cannot do anything at all. My husband has difficulty with every move he makes. Whether it’s trying to turn in bed, shower, get dressed, eat, hold a fork, or simply trying to move his body. Anything that requires the simplest movement is extremely hard for Tony to do as the stiffness and slowness is completely debilitating him. It’s hard to explain, but its’ like his body is stuck in wet cement among a lot of other things that make him feel terrible every second of the day. Most days, we both feel very defeated, but he is determined to keep on going! He is genuinely a wonderful, kind-hearted and giving man who is not only loved by me but loved by so many! Still, when friends call him on the phone today to see how he is doing, he is looking to help them with their problems and gives them advice even though he is suffering so much. I see his suffering, and it is unbearable to watch the person you love suffer so terribly. It’s the most helpless feeling in the world, but I will stop at nothing to try to help him and I will always be by his side.
Parkinson's is a terrible and cruel progressive neurodegenerative disease that robs the body of its ability to move, amongst a host of other symptoms that cannot be seen. So here we are. People who never asked for help now asking for it. We are humbling ourselves before our loved ones, family, friends and amazing people whom we've never met before.
"How you can help"
The funds will be used for his medications and medical costs and to help raise money for a procedure that is not covered by medical insurance called Focused Ultrasound MRI to possibly help with his movement.
Tony is an amazing person. He selflessly cares for everyone else before himself. I have seen this time and time again where he would literally give the shirt off his back to someone in need, among so many other wonderful things he has done for friends, family and strangers. I love this man for every reason and hate seeing him deal with this extremely unforgiving disease.
