Puerto Rico Softball Experience

Abby and Emma have both began training with the Diamond Elite Sports Developmental Program since the end of January. This is a program that has previously focused on boy's baseball only, and the owner has now decided to branch out to girl's fastpitch softball. After speaking with Kevin Kennedy and watching the softball trainer Kacey Frost, in action, I was pleased to sign my daughters up with a program that focuses on their sport entirely. I am also proud to announce that I have volunteered to head coach their 14U team. Kevin has not only extended his program to girls, he has also included them in the Puerto Rico experience!
There will be a team sent to Puerto Rico in July for a week. The group of girls range from both the Diamond Elite 14u and 16u teams. They'll be sent to a camp from approximately 8-12 every morning, have time to rest for the afternoon, and then go back every night to play double headers. The instruction they'll receive is going to be professional and from top trainers. The teams they are going to face can be chosen as equal caliber all the way to very challenging opponents (from what I've heard is "those Puerto Rican players don't mess around"). In other words, this is not a vacation for all these kids- it's work. They can only come back better, more knowledgable, and resilient.
After long talks (and explanations of the physical and financial committments) my daughters have both decided this is something they want to venture. Abby has continued playing from age 6 to the present. I'm excited to be able to watch her represent the high school, as a freshman, on the field. Emma played until she was 8 and then took a hiatus up until a year ago. I am extremely proud of how hard Emma has worked in the past year. She has sparked her passion for the sport to the point she has decided to take pitching lessons regularly.
It's not been an easy road for these two: hot days in the front yard, mosquito filled evenings in the driveway to work on those throwing arms and pitches, lost softballs, knocked out headlights, bruised shins (mom), busted blood vessels in the hands from catching (mom again), smacked in the stomach with a softball (mom still) twisted ankle (Emma), scratches and strawberries from sliding (Abby), and popped cheeks and chins from a grounder (Ab and Em). But through it all? Nothin' but love for the sport.
The amount per person is $1020. This includes airfare and hotel accomodations (they'll be suites).The food expenses are not covered for the week. $3000 would cover all three of us to be able to go, and I will be there to buy their meals from the money I've already began saving. If I can at least get help with their expenses of $2000 that would be a small miracle in itself, and ease off of me financially. If anyone would feel more comfortable sending them a personal donation in the mail or we will be glad to come see you as well. I'm asking for help in any way you can. Even if it's a $1 donation, that is $1 more toward their goal.
