Help Katie Kick Cancer

My sister Katie is an extremely talented writer and photographer, who works two jobs and volunteers as a writing mentor to at-risk teen girls. She was recently diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer at the young age of 32. Although she caught the cancer in an early stage, it is considered an aggressive form of breast cancer.  She recently had a double mastectomy and since the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, she had 12 lymph nodes removed. She will soon begin 4 months of aggressive chemotherapy, followed by 8 months of milder chemo. She will also need radiation since her lymph nodes are involved. Following these treatments, she will have to take medication for 5-10 years.

Katie is kind, smart, strong and ambitious and devotes her time to helping other people. Katie is a loving, fun, and caring aunt to my two young children and is able to capture their most precious moments on camera. She also dedicates an enormous amount of her time helping high school girls tell their stories through creative writing. Even during her cancer treatment, she hopes to continue mentoring the 17-year-old girl she works with, as much as her health will allow.

My sister has a strong team of doctors behind her and was given a good prognosis that we are extremely grateful for. She supports herself as an independent woman, but unfortunately the cost of this cancer is not cheap.
