mergency Relief for 843 Korean BBQ & Sushi House
We opened our doors 4 years ago, introducing healthy, flavorful, and savory Korean cuisine to our community in Charleston, SC. Since our family moved to Charleston in 1992, the lack of different flavors that so many larger cities were blessed with felt almost criminal. This was our inspiration to open an authentic traditional Korean restaurant with indoor Korean Barbecue tables, and the most fresh, delicious, and artistic sushi in town.
From the very beginning, we have been blessed with tremendous love and support from our community. And we thank you from the very bottom of our hearts. But as a global pandemic caused by COVID-19 looms over us, we have been forced to change the whole concept, the backbone, of our restaurant. Indoor Korean Barbecue grilling and family style dining has gone out the door. Mingling and singing with friends and family in our karaoke lounge, sitting at the sushi bar chatting with your chef as he prepares your dinner, having that easy conversation with our bartender to destress after a long day at work also out the door.
We are now operating with almost no FOH staff who used to greet you, remember your name, and your kid’s favorite meal. The BOH has been reduced to 2 chefs. We are truly worried for 843, our 843 staff and their families. With mandated closure of dining rooms, we have had to resort to only takeout orders and home delivery, which means laying off dozens of employees with uncertainty of when and if we will recover.
Our 843 staff are the very heart and soul of our restaurant. Many of us live paycheck to paycheck. Affordable housing is nearly non-existent in Charleston, as is affordable healthcare. These are all contributing problems that the government overlooks when it comes to restaurant workers.
Naturally, we are very concerned about our restaurant families. With that being said, we have decided with a heavy heart to start a GoFundMe Campaign to save 843 Korean BBQ & Sushi House. Our goal is to help our staff and to pay out ongoing bills that are mercilessly due each week until we are fully operational again.
We know that these are difficult times for everyone, but with your donation, whether it be $5 or $500, together we will get through this, and when life returns to normal, we hope to see you back in at 843 with your friends and family.
Any amount will be greatly appreciated to bring relief. And we hope to have our full staff back to greet you at the front door.
