Rory's Surgery - Abdominal Mass

Donation protected
Andy and I are embarrassed to even have a Go Fund Me  for our dog.  But as many of our friends and family know, the family dog is not just "a dog".

Rory has been our baby girl for over 8 years.  We adopted her in February 2007 when she was 8 weeks old.  We will never forget when I brought her home in a cat carrier and Andy was shocked to see how small a rottweiler puppy at 8 weeks is.   She was the size that her head is now.

For 8 years, we have been through a lot with Rory and have always taken care of her like a child.  She is a very loved dog and part of our family.  Even Keegan knows her as "sister" and looks around for her if we are away and someone says "sister."

And while 8 years is a long life, it is not long enough.  We've talked about how healthy, active, young, and full of life Rory is and we have always thought she'd be the rottweiler we have that lives to 12, 13, 14 years old.  We can't sleep knowing that we didn't do something to extend her life right now.

The tumor that Rory has is the size of a large balloon in her abdomine.   It has pushed all of her other organs out of the way, which has caused some vomiting, urinary incontinence, and other issues that we may not be aware of.  She does not appear in pain or discomfort from it, but it looks and feels massive to the touch.  We need to have it removed for her sake and ours.  And unfortuantely, we are looking at $6 - 8,000 for the preliminary work (done last night) and the surgery.  (On top of it, she is very anemic, so they suspect a blood transfusion will be necessary during surgery as well).

It is so difficult to ask for your support, but we are asking.  We realize everyone has something going on in their lives and may not be able to donate anything.  And of course that is totally ok.  The support, prayers, and outreaching we have received has been amazing and we really appreciate all of the friends and family who have made us feel better or reached out to tell us they are thinking of us.  It means a lot to know that others know that Rory is not "just a dog."  And here's hoping the surgery will result in a benign tumor and allow Rory to live to 12, 13, 14 years like we hoped.

Thank you!
