My Trip (Falling Down the Stairs)

Donation protected
I had an unexpected incident where I stepped on a sharpie marker and fell down some basement stairs. I was carried up the stairs in the arms of a good friend, (thank you Bryce) rushed to the hospital, x-rayed, and told I had a badly sprained ankle. I'd be out 3-4 days from work, told to take it easy and RICE it.
Three weeks later I was in excruciating pain, not able to return to my new job as a special education assistant at Roosevelt Highschool, and not healing. When you have a sprain you're encouraged to move it around and stretch it (carefully) so I was doing that and as a result taking 12 ibuprofen a day. It felt wrong, but I had a sprain and if I didn't do that it wouldn't heal.
I went to a walk-in clinic and the first thing the doctor said was "Whoa" and then said "That... needs to be re-xrayed- today."
I did this, and the result was (very obvious on the MRI)a double fracture, and I was sentenced to The Boot.
I  have been injured since November 12, and have 4 more weeks in The Boot, pending it heals properly.

I had just started my new job at Roosevelt a month earlier. The amazingly great news is they like me and are keeping my position open for me. Bad news is I didn't work there long enough to go on sick leave so I can't take a medical leave or be in the union sick pool.
This job was a huge step in me being financially stable, after working at a collective cafe for three years and not making enough to have any savings.

I also co-run a non- profit arts studio with local artist Angie Courchaine called Pinwheel Arts and Movement, which we open up to folks for pop- up art shows, rehearsals, showcase events, meetings, screenings and classes. We are financially responsible for the rent and heat.

To not be able to go back to work has been very, very frustrating and scary. If you know me at all, (which if you're still reading this, thank you!) I try to do that thing where you use your energy to support your community.

I have been involved in the local theater scene in Minneapolis for 17 years, and worked with many amazing organizations like Bedlam Theatre, In the Heart of the Beast Theater, Interact, Barebones, and Open Eye Figure Theater, and have worked with and for many different artists as a designer and performer on over 100 productions and projects here in the Twin Cities.
I've also worked with Stone's Throw Urban Farm as a farm hand, and the Seward Cafe as a collective member focusing on maintenence and the community greenspace/garden coordination.

I expect my ankle to heal, I expect to be able to go back to work at a job that I love, and I expect to be able to return to coordianting my art space and maybe even be able to walk to the bathroom unencumbered!

For now, I need some financial assistance for my finanical obligations, groceries, and maybe a little to spread all over my bed and roll around on haha.

If this is reaching you, you have been a part of my life, and I believe strongly in the power we have to help eachother get thru this thiong we called life with all it's unexpected and delighful twists and turns.

Thank you.
