Oh sweet girl. I got the call I never thought I would ever get. Your student, your girl, she was shot and killed.
Fanta was my student in kindergarten. She defined classroom community and I'm reminded daily of how she helped me accept a challenge and create a community that accepted everyone and cherished everyone's individual interests. To this day, my classroom runs on what she taught me. Most memorable was her ability to remind you through the smallest gestures (& sometimes one BIGGGG old gesture, like making a mess when I was out a day, my little sassy girl!!), that she loved you and appreciated you. Some days she would just randomly rub my arm for a minute straight. It was just a "Fanta thing." She was bright, artistic, sweet, and silly. She loved all things glitter -- and her imagination was the most beautiful thing. Fanta would take the smallest pieces of scrap she would find after crafts and choice time and it would become something beautiful. Thank you Fanta girl for visiting me shortly after the phone call. My husband said "look Jen, a cardinal." You will forever be in my heart and my classroom.
This senseless and tragic event has just roared through my heart and so many others. Her family. Oh, her family. I'm heartbroken for you. Your angel is in heaven and she has touched so many lives and hearts in her time here on earth.
Fanta's sister was also shot and is currently recovering. All proceeds will go directly to Fanta's family for any expenses they endure during this time.
