My sister's fight with Cancer

For the past 6 years my youngest sister Barbara has been battling a cancerous brain tumour. The initial treatment had great results. Her tumour shrank to an almost invisible level and remained this way for 4.5 years. 

At the beginning of 2017 an MRI revealed that the tumour had started growing again. A few different treatments were tried but the tumour kept growing. 

Her oncologist has now recommended a new treatment for which she fortunately qualifies, called Avastin (Bevacizumab). This treatment has a high success rate but also a high cost which is not covered by OHIP or health insurance at this time.

Avastin is administered intravenously every 3 weeks. The costs are per session and start at $1,500 each visit which amounts to $26,000 per year. This is the lowest cost. It can grow if more sessions are necessary and / or the dosage needs to be increased. The cost can climb up to $75,000 per year. The treatment itself, can last up to 2 years.

My sister started her treatment in January 2018.
