My Mom and Dads Night to Remember

For as long as I can remember, my Mom and Dad have been lovers of music- especially Rock and Roll. My Dad was the lead guitarist and lead singer in a band from high school up until about 5 years ago- and my mom was always one of his biggest groupies. Music has always been a shared passion for them.

About 5 years ago, my father started to forget slowly. His cognitive decline due to Alzheimer’s has been gradual and very difficult for our family, specifically my Mom who is his only caretaker.

My mom, who has worked as a nurse for the elderly for nearly her entire career, now faces retirement from her day job, though her caretaking is far from over. She selflessly, patiently, and tirelessly takes care of my Dad. Day in and day out, she meets his every need as they continue to increase through the progression of his disease.

My Dad, having forgotten a lot, has not lost his love for music. Whenever he hears it he is able to remember some words and his face lights up. One of their favorite artists has always been Bruce Springsteen (The Boss).

Bruce is coming on tour next year, and my sisters and I would love to take my Mom and Dad to a show. However, it is insanely expensive, likely due to the fact that Bruce is getting old and may not ever come around again. And if he did, My Dad’s disease may already be too progressed for him to be able to handle a concert.

I ask for your support to help my mom have a night she so desperately deserves- a chance to see her favorite artist with her husband. A chance for her, and maybe even him, to remember the beautiful young memories they shared with one another through music.
