My Fathers Release

Donation protected
Hello - my name is Derrick Jackson, a humble man, a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend [a stand-up guy]. I am also an inmate serving a 360 month (30 year) prison sentence in Federal custody and will be coming  home soon, on November 19, 2020, be transferred to "Home Confinement" for the final 16 months of what has been a life transforming experience. Needed help from you all to get back on my feet, and also secure away of living for myself and my family.

Just a little background on myself, I was 38 years old when I began this sentence and will be 63 when I return home to family and friends. I once thought that serving a 30 year prison sentence was going to be the hardest thing I would ever have to do in my life but after 24 years and 3 months I realize that returning home from it, after losing so much, might prove to be even more difficult.

As I ready myself to leave the Federal Prison Camp in Petersburg, Virginia, with nothing but a few scrapes of clothes and a copy of the most Holy Quran, my heart swells with joy and hope but my mind fills with questions: Am I prepared? How will I rebuild a life and support myself?

My unexpected early transfer to home confinement came about by way of the Bureau of Prisons' (BOP) management of the Corona virus pandemic; which though a blessing, came at a time when I was close to completing my tractor-trailer, Commercial Drivers License (CDL) training. The nation-wide BOP lockdown of the Federal prison system on April 1st of this year stopped all inmate programming, including the CDL training, which 6 months later remains shutdown. Getting a CDL was the single hope I had for getting a good, living-wage paying job, when I was released. I still intend to follow my plan
but it won't be easy -- CDL training in prison is "free" - when I'm out, I'll need to pay for it. I'm asking for your HELP!  I have passed the knowledge tests and possess a Virginia CDL driving permit but now I'll need to transfer my license and pursue on-road training in Maryland where I intend to live and work. I also want to someday buy my own truck and be independent.

I have always been a "stand-up" guy, keeping it real; loyal and true to my word. To all who can relate to my immediate struggle and know the traumatic impact it has on our lives  I would greatly appreicate what ever help you can give to help me fulfill my hopes and dreams as I begin a new walk of life,. Be blessed and know
your gift will be humbly received by a grateful heart.

With love and prayers for you and yours,

Derrick Jackson
