MY STORY

This is a long love-romance, but not the kind that you normally hear about.
As a teenager I fell in love with an extremely talented roumanian violinist; we spent 4 summer holidays in Romania where I saw the most amazing nature landscapes, woods, monasteries, but the most important thing is that I discovered some of the most amazing music ever.
George Enescu, rumanian composer, who lived between 1881 and 1955, in Romania, Vienna and Paris.  He was one of the great violinists of all time. Also an amazing pianist, and cellist. Composition was his great love.
A kind and generous man, a genius, loved and adored by so many while he was alive.

Yehudi Menuhin, his student for many years, describes him as:
"The Absolute by which I judge all others... the most extraordinary human being, the greatest musician and the most formative influence I have ever experienced.
Imagine a man with an encyclopaedic mind which never forgot anything he heard and could recall instantaneously and play any work from Bach, Wagner to Bartok; imagine that mind allied to the most generous and selfless of hearts in a human being  and always propelled by a creative genius whether in speaking, teaching, conducting, playing the violin, the piano, and very particularly in composing.
Even then , the image would still not be complete. A man full of humour as well as deep philosophy, conversant with the languages and literatures of Europe, a man imbued with the highest forms of chivalry and fundamental earth-loving patriotism - this would be George Enescu"
(Here he is with a young Yehudi Menuhin)
His music is extraordinary, so why is it not better known? It might be because of the 2 World Wars, and many personal setbacks, but I so much wish that could change.

MY PROJECT
Many years after my first encounter, and long thinking, I decided to record his music, and I found a good label, Brilliant Classics, willing to produce this CD.
I will be recording my début album end of September, it will be entirely dedicated to the music of G.Enescu. I always thought that if I was ever going to make a recording, it should have a deep motivation behind it, and I can say this is what I waited for, for many years.

The pieces will be the Suite op.18, which was written between 1913 and 1916, Enescu thought it got lost and never heard it performed.
These 7 pieces are all very different from each other and in many ways sound like nothing else. Very colourful, powerful, you can hear sounds from nature, orthodox choirs, bells, folk music, french parfums, roumanian melancholy. And these are just my own references, but I can assure you, it is beautiful.
Here are some excerpts that were recorded during a concert in December 2017. It is n. 2 “Voix de la steppe”, n.4 “Burlesque”, n.6 “Chorale”, n.7 “Carillon Nocturne” (starting from min.15:30. It is also the most stunning of all 7 pieces. You can literally hear bells sounding from far away, over hills and endless space. I suggest listening to it with closed eyes).

Suite op.18

Together with this, the CD will have the 3rd Sonata op.24, written between 1933 and 1935. It is an amazingly complex and fascinating piece, in contains my favourite music, the second movement, which is so so so beautiful, it combines folk melodies with the most fascinating harmonies.

WHAT WOULD I USE THE FUNDS FOR?
The funds would cover the recording costs and would pay for:

1. Producer Peter Arts's wonderful ears, in Holland, for two days of recording, September 21st and 22nd. He is truly amazing and would make a difference to the quality of the CD.

2. Piano technician Danilo Cosucci's costs (tuning, preparing and cuddling the beautiful instrument) .

The recording will be made in Schiedam (Rotterdam), in the Westvest Kerk, where I will have the perfect conditions to fully concentrate on the music, and Boesendorfer kindly agreed to send one of their new wonderful pianos there (280VC)

Any kind of donation will be very welcome, and I will be very happy to share the results with you, with a thank you letter, or for higher donations a signed CD, your name in the thank-you's in the booklet, or even a private concert (live or via Skype).

Enescu has been the most wonderful discovery for me, such inspiring music, I love it deeply and the thought of being able to bring it to many more people fills me with joy.
