My Daughter's Leadership Camp

My daughter, Piper, has been nominated to go to Washington, D.C. to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference. If you know Piper, you know that she never wants to go anywhere out of town without my husband and me. However, she begged to go to this conference. To see the look on her face, and the excitement was amazing. The cost of the conference is $2,195.00. To any family that is a huge amount. After speaking with my husband, we decided to do it. She was on cloud 9 and has not stopped talking about it. It will be such an amazing experience for her and I know that she will grow even more than the beautiful, caring, young lady she already is.
However, due to an unfortunate event, I am no longer employed. Clint and I spoke, and there is no possible way to send her. We decided we needed to let her know that it was not going to happen this year. I have spent many sleepless nights this week trying to figure a way out to make it happen.
On our way home this afternoon from school, I told Piper that we were not going to be able to send her. She put on a brave face and told me she understood, but I could see the disappointment. It broke my heart. I told her I was trying and she said she knew and understood.
After a little bit, she turned to me and said, "we can start a GoFundMe account". To me, this was going to be horribly embarrassing. But, when it comes to my child, I won't save face. I will put myself out there and ask anyone if they can help in the slightest, we will be more than grateful.
It takes a village.
