My daughter's battle with Scoliosis

Donation protected
My name is Beth, I am seeking help on behalf of my eleven year old daughter, Liette.
Liette was diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Scoliosis at age 8. Upon her examination, they discovered the curve of her spine was already over 40 degrees, causing her significant pain and difficulty breathing.

Although Liette suffers from chronic pain she has pushed forward, joining soccer teams, acting in plays, volunteering at the local animal shelter and excelling at school. She is a bright, fun-loving kid.  Liette has co-founded a small acting group, Kid Comedy, that preforms sketch comedy shorts to post on line, written and started in by herself and close friends. She is a wonderful big sister, and remains active in her community and church.

Due to her age, it was recommended to "watch and wait" as she grew and see if the curve in her spine stablized or became worse.
Over the past years, despite the care Liette has received, the curve in her spine has advanced to over 57 degrees. Our family has been working closely with doctors.  We have purchased back braces (worn 23hrs a day) and consulted surgeons for advice in ways to give Liette the best possible quality of life. After trying many programs to help as Liette gained height it has been recommended that we turn our efforts toward fusion.

This year, Liette and her father, traved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvaina  to the Shriners Hospital for Children to meet with her surgeon and discuss the steps moving forward.  This is an exciting time for Liette as her curve has become worse over the last year, she is looking forward to having the curve corrected and we pray a reduce in her daily battle with pain.

Our family has been very lucky to have the chance to work with one of the top surgions who works with children suffering from scoliosis (Doctor Joshua Pahys), his team and everyone at the Shriners Hospital.

Liette’s surgery date is set for July.  She requires care, equipment and travel which are not covered by our health insurance.  The travel from our small home town in Wyoming to Philadelphia has been challenging, however we are desperate to give Liette the best opporuntiy to improve her health.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Beth
