Unfortunately, my father has lost his battle with liver disease on April 1st, 2018. He had a strong and hard fight throughout this time. He had an infection that overwhelmed his body and the antibiotics could not keep up. He peacefully became an angel surrounded by his family. We truly appreciate everyone's support during this difficult time.
Since 2014 my father has been fighting and struggling with liver disease. He has reached the end stage of this disease this past year and unfortunately has been dealing with a great deal of secondary issues that go along with this disease. The liver is an organ that processes toxins so the body can function properly, without that filtration, toxins can build up throughout the body and even reach the brain. Encephalopathy, which is damage that has been done to his brain due to a buildup of toxins created because the liver cannot filter the toxins out of his body. He struggles daily with memory loss, confusion, disorientation, and processing issues. His symptoms are similar to dementia, which has made things very challenging for him and the family. He also experiences difficulty with inflammation within his pancreas.
For those who have come to know my dad know that he has such a big heart and a great sense of humor. He volunteered with Saco’s Little League and youth football programs, coached many of my brothers’ sports and made it to every single of my cheering competitions no matter the distance or the time. He always supported our dreams and did what he could to help us accomplish them. He and my mum willingly became foster parents to a child in need. They have also rescued two dogs. He would always show my mum how much he loves her with little things every now and then. My father has always put his family first and would always go out of his way to make us happy and to show us how important we are to him.
After several hospitalizations throughout the years, including a recent admission in the Lahey ICU, my father has finally been added to the transplant list. Although this is very exciting news for our family, the wait for an organ can be quite lengthy taking months to years to find a match. Lahey Clinic has made it a possibility for my father to hopefully get back to himself and be able to work and cook like he use too. Since July of 2016, my father has not been working because of how this disease has progressed. This has been and will continue to be a long and difficult road for my family. Even with insurance, there are many expenses that my family has had to endure and these expenses will continue to grow throughout the transplant process.

My father's condition has deteriorated faster than we anticipated, and we are still waiting for a call from the transplant team. At this point in his fight, he now has to have a weekly procedure done to keep him stable. Unfortunately, this is an expensive procedure and is becoming costly for my family. We also have immediate family members looking into becoming a living donor which is also adding expenses for our family. Due to these circumstances we have had to raise our goal.
We want to sincerely thank everyone who has already donated. We are forever grateful for the kindness everyone has shown us and appreciate the generosity, kind thoughts, and prayers.
