Copenhagen Marathon for Prader-Willi

On May 5th I will be running the Copenhagen Marathon (42.195km) to fundraise for my brother Nick's condition; Prader-Willi Syndrome. It is a rare condition that approximately 1 in 17,000 children are born with each year.

The Prader-Willi Research Foundation are a fantastic organisation which provide quality support to associated families all across Australia, and they rely on community donations to support their research.

Through donations and funding, the Prader-Willi Research Foundation aims to:

- Help people with Prader-Willi Syndrome live independently, unconstrained from the main components of the condition which are hyperphagioa (uncontrollable hunger), mental illness (including anxiety), obesity, and complications from slow gastric emptying

- Improve early symptom management and outcomes in children and adolescents

- Reach a breakthrough in gene-specific treatment

About Nick:

Nick has always been an up-beat, friendly and compassionate personality who enjoys learning. He loves his school and has fantastic relationships with everyone he meets, from his classmates to his specialists.

Nick has had many medical challenges in relation to his hyperphagia, mental wellbeing, immune system, and bone structures, but he shows extreme bravery and resilience in the face of adversity. He is very grateful of those trying to help him, and works very hard with his teachers and speech pathologist to improve his skills and grow as a young man.
