Dan's Campaign against M.S.

Hoveround "Cobra"

In 1991 an MRI scan showed lesions on my brain and my neurosurgeon suggested that I may have Multiple Sclerosis.  At that point no one followed up on the possible diagnosis.
As time went on, I began developing more symptoms of the disease.  In 2005, I had a serious exacerbation and I was hospitalized for three days and then needed a home healthcare nurse come to my house everyday for a week to give me an IV of steroids to help speed up my recovery. I have had numerous exacerbations since, but none quite as severe.
M.S. Is a progressive disease and cannot be stopped, but can be slowed down with medication. My last MRI scan showed lesions moving down into my spine. My disease is getting worse.
As time has gone on, I have lost a great deal of strength in both my arms and legs.
Within the last year, I have been losing more strength in my legs and now I can't stand for more than five minutes. The scooter that I would like would allow me to continue to go outdoors (to an extent) and enjoy nature as I always have, but can no longer do at this point.
It would also give me the freedom to go many other places. (Stores, outdoor events etc.)
I have fallen several times recently and luckily I haven't been injured. (Yet)  The medication I've taken over the years has slowed the progression of the disease, but it has gotten worse nonetheless .
I realize that unless you experience the pain and weakness associated with M.S., you can't really relate. But.... You don't want to either. There's nothing pleasant about it.
These days,I spend my days primarily in a recliner watching tv and talking to friends on Facebook.
We have a church campground across the road from us. The roads in the campground are completely black topped and I'd love to be able to ride around over there, look for wildlife, and meet some of the campers. With your help, I can do that.

When I was younger, I took my legs and mobility for granted.
I really miss that mobility today.
