The Mark West Center for the Arts (MWCA), also known as House of Mark West is a non-profit community organization, gallery and creative hub for artists in the South Bronx.
**Updates: Thanks to our combined cashapp, venmo, zelle, and go fund me contributions, we have raised over $1500 and have provided over 20 artists and creatives with grants and materials. We are still shy of our goal and aim to help every artists that expressed need. MWCA will be providing a one-time grant of 100$ USD to NYC artists and musicians through our NYC Artist Covid-19 Emergency Relief Fund and Food Drive. Here is the criteria:
Provided to professional visual and performance artists exhibiting financial need as a result of the quarantine.
Must have showcased or performed at a professional venue with proof.
Priority will be given to artists diagnosed with covid-19 or are a caretaker for someone diagnosed with covid-19.
Determination will not be based on artistic merit, but on financial need.
Awards will be allotted on a first-come first serve basis.
May also request emergency food if needed.
The funds will be distributed to artists in financial need immediately in a one-time amount of $100 per artist. We will also be hosting a food drive and each artist will have the ability to request food rations.
We are black-owned and cater primarily to Black, Brown, LGBTQ, disabled, and young (k-12) artists and creatives. We are a gallery and artist collective that hosts monthly art exhibitions, free grant-writing workshops, open mic competitions, art classes, and town hall meetings. As one of the only black-owned and queer-owned artist organizations in NYC, and one of only 5 galleries in the entire Bronx, our mission is providing exposure and advocacy for underrepresented artists from all backgrounds.
If you have the ability, please make a donation of any amount to our fund.
Donations of 50$ or more will receive an original artwork and a letter from the artists who receive the funds.
Donations of 200$ will receive original artwork, mention on our social media plus admission to our launch party following the quarantine.
Donations of 500$ or more will receive original artwork, listed as a donor on The Mark West Show , VIP admission plus 1 guest to our Donor Reception for the MWCA Vernissage in NYC and will be mentioned on all our social media platforms.
