Murphy Ranch Destroyed & TJ's Vet Bills

The early morning hours of January 27th 2021 a mudslide came rushing through our property on Limekiln Road in Salinas, CA. It destroyed our barn, most of our fences, multiple vehicles, carried my brother, Josh, away in his truck as he tried to escape, and caught our horse Spazzy and her best friend, T.J., who is a miniature horse with a giant personality.
We had evacuated all the animals that were in at risk areas, so the fact that T.J. and Spazzy got caught in the mud shows just how much more devastating and destructive this force of nature was. My parents, Andrew and Karen, have never seen anything so destructive in all their years on this property. Even El Nino of 1995 didn't come close to matching the utter chaos we witnessed in a single night!!!
The property is 20 acres and most of it is covered in mud ranging from 1 foot deep in some areas to 6 feet deep in others. Our stuff stretches for miles into neighboring fields. To those farmers who own and work those fields, we are so sorry about that.
We need able bodied people willing to clear debris, repair structures, build fences, dirt removal, we need to borrow bolt cutters, shovels, mattocks, sawsall (battery operated), chainsaws, wagons with big tires, 20 gallons of diesel fuel, everything. We need so much help right now, that we don't even know where to start! It is so disheartening.
We also need help covering thousands of dollars in vet bills. T.J. the miniature horse, has been in the ICU following his traumatic experience of being stuck in the mud, Spazzy has also required veterinary care.

Thank you to everyone who is currently volunteering to help, Thank you to the Monterey County SPCA for helping us evacuate so many animals, Thank you to Steinbeck Veterinary Clinic for treating T.J. and Spazzy , and the biggest Thank you to the firefighters who pulled our horses out of the mud!!! We will never be able to thank you enough!
