Mullivaikkal Children's School Project

My name is Anushca Vaseeharan and I am one of the founders of the Mullivaikkal Children’s Foundation. I have always been an advocate for promoting children’s education and when I heard about this town in Sri Lanka where there was an opportunity for me to help these poor kids, I jumped at it. This was a way for me to connect with my roots and do what I truly love which is helping the future generation. From this passion, I started to raise money to build a school for the children in Mullivaikkal, a place that was deeply affected by the civil war and had inadequate resources. Through my Bharatanatyam arangetram ( a form of indian classical dance graduation) and an art exhibition, I asked for donations to support this cause. From these donations, we bought land in Sri Lanka and started to build a school. My current project now that we have bought a land is to move what we have built to our new land. Therefore, we are in urgent need of funding in order to rebuild and improve our building so that it is sustainable for the students who will be preparing for their exams. For this project, we plan to build a bathroom, fix the roof, add pillars for the foundation of the building, build a cement floor, build a fence around our building to protect it, add a motor pump to the well, and provide electricity. We also plan to help the local people in the village with a job opportunity to help with the construction. Our overall funding for this mission will be $2,150 and my goal is to reach this in 2 weeks.
