On April 15, 2017, I was crowned Ms. Maryland United States. On June 7, 2017, I will compete against other delegates from around the country for the title, Ms. United States. I am excited. I am happy. I am a little bit nervous.
This platform, the United States Pageant, offers me the opportunity to change lives nationwide. This pageant gives me the opportunity to draw more attention to the thing I am most passionate about... advancement in literacy for children in underpriveledged communities. Currently, I dedicate time and resources to non-profit organizations such as Reading Partners. The first time I volunteered with Reading Partners in 2010, I had the opportunity to experience something magical: the birth of imagination and the enrichment of life through thought, The child I was tutoring fell in love with reading and found escape and refuge in books. That is a love I am familiar with.
Eventually, I hope to have an organization of my own that partners young professionals and collegiate students with programs like Reading Partners in order to advance children's education during the school year through mentorship, one-on-one tutoring, and group activities and enhance children's lifestyle experiences during the summer through organized international summer camps. To do that, I will need support. This is one of the first steps I am taking.
I ask you for your help now so that I can bring home a crown and awareness to my cause by getting on that stage in July. The stage that will ensure my hopes and dreams become more than just a thought, more than just my imagination, they become real.
I also want to show young girls everywhere that YOU CAN DO ANYTHING! Never compare yourself to anyone else. Life is about becoming a better YOU. I want the little girl looking in the mirror thinking she is not enough or that there is something wrong to KNOW that she is perfect. I want my story to assure her that her life is valuable and valued and that she is simply on her way to becoming a beautiful butterfly.
Friends, family, supporters, I am asking you to help me get to nationals. In order to compete each contestant has to pay fees, pay for hotel and travel, buy a gown, and many other expenses. I will be putting my own money toward my competition but I still need some assistance. Help me get to Florida!
