A Blessed Hello,
”Blessed” probably sounds questionable since I’ve been without Ed Collins for seven year; survived cancer, four knee surgeries, and four hernias--but I am Blessed. My family still laughs about my anesthesia-induced insistence that I saw yellow cats in my hospital room. Surely God, skillful surgeons, and caring nurses have prolonged my life. However, I am most grateful for the compassionate, continuous love and support of caring family and friends. You keep me looking forward to the days ahead (I’ve got a lot planned, which I’ll share at a later date).
My daughter, Cathy, and her husband, Michael, came to visit on May 27th, 2016. On May 31st, I was rushed into emergency surgery for an incarcerated hernia and a miserable 40-day stay. Cathy is still here. Mobility and prior health status have not returned so I know it is time to pack up and move to a home near them in Goose Creek, South Carolina. My debts and relocation expenses prompt this letter of appeal. I need substantial financial assistance to relocate. Before that, however, I have to settle taxes, ever-mounting medical bills and moving /storage expenses. I also need to purchase a van that transports me – and my wheelchair.
My Needs List Includes:
• 2 large storage containers to use until we establish housing details. $7,000.00
• U-haul expenses for long distance move of my belongings $10,000.00
• A wheelchair accessible van/vehicle $15,000.00
A motorized scooter/wheelchair
(I really do not like asking for help, I’d rather be the one providing the help.)
The stress of aging, debt, packing and moving is taking a toll. If you can help, I will be forever grateful. If you can’t, just send your prayers and well wishes my way.
PS. Some time ago, I started pulling together a Life Book of Swarthmore Upward Bound poetry, articles, letters, photos, Final Production tapes. As soon as I get settled, I’ll put out a call for additional materials and plans for a grand reunion. I love hearing from family, friends, Upward Bound alumni and families.
