2017 Classroom Fund!!!

Donation protected

Hello to all my amazing family and friends!

Well, it's that time of year again when teachers are beginning to plan an engaging, relevant, and of course, fun school year ahead. As many of you know, teachers in South Los Angeles, and many other areas, are left to scramble for resources on their own, something I am faced with each summer.

I am asking to raise money for my classroom for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year. I would like to purchase school supplies including, but not subject to: markers, crayons, pens, pencils, spiral notebooks, glue, erasers, bulletin board materials, math manipulatives, differentiated reading resources, and...

FIELDTRIPS!!!

Even though most of us think of fieldtrips as a fun day out of school, they are extremely beneficial to our scholars' learning. When students leave the classroom, they see the connections between what is happening at school and in the ‘real-world’. They begin to see that what they learn within the walls of the classroom can help them solve the problems they see in the world around them and can have a direct impact on who they become as people.

Last year, my scholars had the opportunity to experience an overnight fieldtrip at the La Brea Tarpits, something they will never forget. We were blessed by an extremely generous person to sponsor the entire trip. Without this charitable gift, my class would not have been able to afford an experience like this.  Having the supplies and resources they need means that students, and myself, will be able to embark on a truly innovative, transformative, community-driven, and centered learning environment.

Thank you so much if you took the time to read this and please consider donating. Anything, even just a dollar or two, helps and goes toward funding for my students. Anyone who knows me well, knows that my students have truly become my family, and it will mean so much to me to continue to watch them grow and navigate through life successfully.

A little about me:
I am a third grade teacher in South Los Angeles committed to being a part of an innovative and empowering teaching and learning experience in my classroom. I teach in a Title 1 School, which means we are a low-income school that struggles to come by resources. Next year I plan to have at least 30 thoughtful, inquisitive, talented, adorable eight year olds in my classroom. Many of them know all too well the trials and tribulations of growing up in poverty, of discrimination, of systemic, structural inequity, and of trauma...despite their young age. In the past, I have I worked extremely hard to ensure that my classroom is a safe space, not only for the students in my class, but for students campus-wide, and wh I am now referred to as MOM by many of the students at school. My classroom has become a space to explore, to learn, to love and to be loved.
