Welcome to Jeff's Medical Fund Campaign! The photo is of Jeff (far right) and his two brothers, Danny (far left) and Derek (middle). I have been dating Danny for about 5 years, and during this time, his family has become my family, and I love his brothers as if they were my own (bickering and all!)
On February 6th, Jeff was taken to the ER after having seen his family physician for stomach pain. He was admitted to Durham Regional Hospital, where he remained in a great deal of pain for over a week. After undergoing extensive tests and procedures, Jeff was diagnosed conclusively with ulcerative colitis.
Prior to his hospital admission, Jeff was just starting a new career, and was in the 90-day hiring phase. During this phase, he was not eligible to sign up for medical insurance with his employer. Fortunately, having obtained a major medical policy with a $5,000 deductible, Jeff had insurance for his hospitalization. But, the deductible was $5,000, and he has 20% co-insurance to pay for the hospitalization.
Jeff's life has been permanently changed in the blink of an eye. He suddenly went from being a healthy young man with no medical concerns to having to live the remainder of his life with mandatory treatments every 2 months, indefinitely, at a cost of $3,000 per treatment.
As Jeff copes with this chronic disease, mentally, emotionally and physically, it is my hope that we can make Jeff's journey a little bit easier by helping him relieve the financial burden of this initial deductible.
