Mr. Corbin's Kidney

Donation protected
After many years of uncertainty, countless numbers of dialysis treatments, and months of testing and waiting...the date has been set. On May 22nd at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida, Ronald and Candice Corbin will both undergo surgery; Candice has been approved to give her father the lifesaving gift of a healthy kidney.

About Ron: Ronald LaSalle Corbin moved to the Treasure Coast in 1980 to begin as Choral Director at Martin County High School, a job he would hold for 34 years before retiring in 2014. But it was always more than a 'job' to him, and to his students he was much more than a 'teacher.' In addition to being an amazing musical instructor, turning nearly all of his choirs into award-winning teams capable of competing all over the globe, he guided thousands of 'Outstanding People United to Sing' in all aspects of life during their critical and formative teenage years. He instilled discipline, (summer laps around the track anyone?) enforced good manners, incited riotous laughter, and through some tough love always commanded respect. He profoundly impacted not just his students, but the countless number of Martin County residents who over the decades were lucky enough to see him transform...over and over again...a bunch of ragtag teens into an awe-inspiring, united force of vocal talent.
While he is hampered a bit these days by the demands of his dialysis, he remains full of passion and vigor, enjoying the company of his confidants on the golf course, his good friends over dinners, and of course his former students...now peers...at the piano in the classroom. He looks forward post-recovery to visiting his daughter in New York City and taking in a baseball game. :)

About Candice: Born in 1981, Candice Ronnice Corbin inherited her father's talent and love of music. As a young child she was always by his side as he educated the youth of Martin County, whether at summer music camps or in the choral wing of the high school, where she was as much a member of OPUS at age 5 as she was at 13, when she was officially old enough to join. (Yes, she had to audition like everyone else.) After receiving her degree in Music from Stetson University, she moved to New York where she currently resides. In order to have some flexibility to pursue her passion & gift...if you've heard her sing you know it's a GIFT...she juggles three jobs, often waking before the sun and singing every Sunday at a church in Lower Manhattan. Unfortunately, she will not do karaoke with you. You have to pay to play. :)

While many of his students have viewed Mr. Corbin as a father figure, Candice was deemed by science to be a perfect match for her beloved Dad. He has given so much so selflessly to our community for the last 40 years; she is giving him the ultimate gift, (in addition to sharing him with all of us!) and now we all have the opportunity to repay them in some small measure. Donated funds will help to cover travel expenses, aid in recovery, and compensate for lost wages. Any additional funds, if applicable, will go to the charity of their choosing to assist other families facing similar circumstances. Thank you in advance for your love and generosity! Please share!!
