Randy Nickell recently found out he has a long road ahead of him. With a diagnosis of Colon and Rectal Cancer, he is determined to fight. With a caring wife, two beautiful daughters, and a growing son, he has more than enough reasons to give this fight his all.
When my husband Mike and I bought our house on their block two years ago, we never imagined that our neighbors would turn into our family. Being in the military, we are accustomed to being in new places that are far away from any family and friends. The Nickell’s didn’t miss a beat welcoming us into our new home.
The word to best describe Randy and Kathy is selfless. When Mike deployed, like clock work, Randy would come down the sidewalk with a hot dinner. I would wake up to a shoveled driveway, only to realize he shoveled half of the block as well. If I mentioned anything broken, burnt out, or needing replacing in passing, I would open my door to Randy with a ladder and tool box in hand. When I would say “don’t worry about it, I can do it!” he would always remind me that while Mike is serving his country over seas, this is his way to serve his country while at home.
Kathy has worked at the school district for over thirty years. She dedicates long hours on and off the clock for everyone around her. No student goes hungry or without a warm coat on her watch. She is on every committee and board that ensures the needs of students, faculty, and teachers are being met. It is no secret that those in education work extremely hard for not enough pay. Randy has worked in construction for his entire life. With this sudden diagnosis he is currently unable to work. All funds donated will go towards helping ease their burden during this trying time.
