Save Pinky from the System
Pinky is a young girl born and raised in Portland, Jamaica. At 9 years old - she is a fireball of excitable energy, and intelligent beyond her years. Street smart, yes, but it is Pinky's pure heart and magical wisdom that makes her so special. She is bright, overly aware. Constantly absorbing and learning from her surroundings. Pinky grew up on the streets often without a roof over her head or food to eat, but her eyes still sparkle as she grows with experience.
Pinky lost her father a few years ago, and her mother has been recently diagnosed with a terminal illness. Although her mother loves her dearly she is not equipped mentally, physically nor financially to raise a child.
Pinky wakes up everyday to a dangerous and explicitly adult world. As an innocent young girl on the streets she faces the harsh reality of sex trafficking and rape. It is only a matter of time until something truly damaging happens. Pinky's youth could be stolen in an instant. We don't want Pinky to lose her sparkle.
Two and half years ago we stepped into Pinky's life, we fell in love with her and wanted to help provide her with structure, guidance, and education in any way we could. We enrolled her into a school she could walk to, provided her with school supplies, and provided care and guidance when possible.
Without proper daily guardianship however, Pinky faces being torn away into terrifying government care. Please help us save Pinky from the child care system, and provide her with the education and future she deserves!
We have organized a local family for Pinky, willing to provide her with guardianship and a stable home to keep her safe from the streets and from being torn from her community into government care. This is a family whom we know well and trust.
This fundraiser will help cover the cost for two years:
- Financial child care support for her guardian (Approximately $150 a month)
- Pinky's school and living costs/ supplies
- Medical and dentist bills
- Tutoring and after school activities
- Boarding school when she is of age
