Join the fight against Baby Myles Spinal Tumor

In the beginning of February 2019 we started noticing some concerning symptoms in our 5 month old son, Myles. This lead us to having an MRI. We were then informed they found a 5 cm mass in his cervical spine and he would need a risky surgical procedure to retrieve a biopsy. Our world was shook! I cannot put into words the fear and sadness we experienced.

Myles was diagnosed with a malignant Anaplastic Astrocytoma grade 3. It is a very aggressive tumor that is extremely difficult to treat especially in someone so young. These tumors are not known to respond to chemo. And even with radiation they typically come back just as aggressive. Surgery would most likely leave him paralyzed and still not be 100% successful at removing the tumor.

We tried a chemo regimen that had worked in a few patients at the Children’s Hospital of Denver. After two rounds Myles had a follow up MRI and what it showed was devastating. Not only had the tumor continued growing but there was also a lot of fluid on his brain. This means the chemo did not work...and the doctors have given him a few days to a few weeks to live.

We are currently receiving hospice care and being home together making sure Myles is as comfortable as possible. We are prepared for the worst but still praying for a miracle!
