WHY THE FUNDRAISER?

dionna pridGeon wants to raise more awareness about Multiple Sclerosis.
"We may look fine on the outside, but there is something much larger happening on the inside."
----
MS is a snowflake disease, meaning that it effects people very differently and the exact causes are undetermined. In most cases, MS can go undetected for quite some time. This demyelinating disease causes damage to the Central Nervous System: Brain, Optic Nerves and Spinal Cord. Though MS is incurable, it is not contagious and there are DMTs (Disease Modifying Therapies) that can slow down disease activity and delay progression.
----
Dionna was diagnosed on 7/20/20; Since then, she felt led to share information about MS, to both her peers and the dance communities in which she is a part of. She wants to show how there are artists who live with diseases like this, on a daily basis; we can continue to use dance as a vessel for both awareness and healing. "It's ok to share your story." #moveDIPR
----
It's important to also know that these DMTs are expensive; Receiving the care/treatment needed can be quite taxing, which is why we need to continue raising funds to support more MS research, but also support Orgs/NPs who are doing all they can to build community and advocate on the behalf of MS individuals.
---
Dionna has decided to lead a M ovement S ession (in person/ZOOM/FB live) on Aug 21st at Visceral Dance Center (Chicago) Sign Up for the session is below; She/We are donating  100% of the funds on Aug 21st, as well as funds raised with this campaign, to WE ARE ILL.

"We Are Ill is a nonprofit organization with a mission to redefine what sick looks like. We Are Ill will bring attention to and unite female identifying women of color battling MS. We will do so through a supportive social media network, political and social advocacy, educational programing, and in-person/online support groups. We Are Ill inspires women of color with MS to live healthier and fuller lives. We Are Ill also serves as a thought-leader in the MS, invisible illness, and wellness space. By changing the narrative of MS and improving the health outcomes of women of color, We Are Ill not only gives the forgotten MS Warriors a space to share their stories, but the organization plays its part in eradicating the disease."
