Mouse's Stroke/Aneurysm Recovery

Donation protected
Hello everyone. For those of you who know, and also for those who maybe do not know yet, on Sunday, February 25th, which coincidentally was also his mom’s birthday, my nephew Jose Arvizu, AKA Mouse, collapsed during his mom’s birthday dinner as a result of an aneurysm and stroke that he suffered. This was brought on by a blood clot that had slowly been making its way through his body, unbeknownst to him and his family.

Just the night before, Jose had been the lively, ever smiling young man he has always been as he participated as a finalist to form a part of the royal court at his JROTC Annual Military Ball. However, he would face the biggest challenge of his life the very next day, when he was life-flighted to Memorial Hermann in downtown Houston after collapsing at home surrounded by friends and family. After this, he spent 10 days in ICU on a breathing machine and on a feeding tube. At one point, the family was prepared for the worst. He had emergency surgery to a very delicate part of his brain and fortunately made it through, but he still faces months, if not years, worth of multiple therapies.

Jose, who is currently a senior in high school, remains paralyzed on his left side and will require extensive physical therapy for a while. This therapy will continue until he gets ready to come home. He is now at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas where he is receiving the best available care. His mom has not left his side since this journey began and has not been able to return to work. Mouse, as he is known by his closest friends and family, is a sweetheart and we have faith that he will be able to make a full recovery.

One of his biggest motivations is being able to attend his high school prom in late April and to walk across the stage at his graduation. We know this will only be possible if he continues to receive the therapy he needs. ANYthing you are able to contribute will be very helpful to the family. Let's help him get the very best care he can and get him back to being the same carefree, Taki loving young man he was before this occurred. Anything and everything gained through this campaign will be used to cover:

-Medical expenses not covered by his insurance (the house will have to be adapted with a ramp, railings,  and other necessary things once he comes home)

-Things health insurance won't cover (the family recently received a statement for thousands of dollars just for the life flight helicopter ride)

-His parent's unpaid leave from work (his mom has not returned to work yet)

-Multifaceted rehabilitation from his brain surgery which includes physical, speech, occupational, and emotional therapy.

-Gas money to commute back and forth to therapy once he comes home (he will hopefully continue his therapies at Shriners)

The family would like to thank everyone beforehand for all of their love, care, concern, and support during this challenging time in their lives. They would also like to express their gratitude to everyone who has reached out to help in any way, shape, or form. Please know that any of your contributions will help the family devote their time to Mouse’s care and healing. We are forever grateful to all of you. Gracias.
