After my mom was diagnosed with Brain Cancer my Aunt K (Kirstin) started a YouCaring Campaign to help pay for alternative treatments and maintaining my parents commitment to provide for me and my brother Tyler.
Kirstin, really like the vibe of youCaring as it was a site specific to raising money for those ill and wanting to explore alternative treatments. Since last Kirstin posted, youCaring was taken over by GoFundMe and Kirstin lost all the posts that she has made. Kirstin asked me to help and to launch another campaign through GoFundMe. Saying yes to her was the least I can do for two of the most wonderful women in my life!
My mom now finds herself on permanent disability ... which is calculated by years worked and money paid into the 'system'.... unfortunately ... being a full time, stay-at-home mom for 12 year and + being a contracted dance and Colorguard instructor (which does not pay into the 'system' left my mom with a ridiculously low amount allotted to her for disability. There is something very wrong with a 'system' that does not value stay at home moms.... WOW! My parents decided to have my mom stay home with Tyler and I so that she could raise us instead of a day care.... I am sure she did not think to herself - Maybe I should work instead...so my disability would be higher in the event I get Brain Cancer!
My mom and dad have given me and Tyler everything and continue to strive for that... now we are adulating and off to college - still they provide all they can. All while maintaining a hugely positive outlook on her journey!
My mom actually says to me that she feels this journey is all worth it if her journey will possibly and eventually lead to a cure for her and others!
