Help a Mountain Woman Beat Cancer

Donation protected
Ilona Pallagi is a vibrant 62-year-old woman, mother of two and grandmother to seven grand-daughters, who has spent the bulk of her adult life living off-grid  on a trapline in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia.

She is an artist, writer, and fur trapper/hunter. She has lived a very interesting yet simple life in a demanding and harsh environment. She has always stood-up for what's right and fought for the environment, indigenous rights, and equality for the poor.

Two years ago she began to experience a mysterious illness and only recently, after being misdiagnosed and turned away several times from doctors and hospitals, she finally got an answer - CANCER.

On February 7, 2018, Ilona was officially diagnosed with "serous adenocarcinoma", or uterine cancer. Doctors have recommended a complete hysterectomy, whereupon, her tissues will be further examined to reveal the degree of this aggressive type of cancer.

Her surgery will occur within the next few weeks, so there is not much time to plan let alone locate the necessary funding.

Fortunately, Ilona's provincial health insurance will cover this surgery however, her follow-up holistic therapy, convalescence, change of diet and lifestyle will have to paid out-of-pocket, something neither she nor her family are able to afford on their own.

Ilona will also have to relocate her dwelling to an area that will permit access to better food, medicine, doctors, therapies, warmth, and family. She is still so young and has so much to offer the world. It is not her time to leave Mother Earth and certainly not in this manner.

She is nearing completion of her book, a biography of her life as a wilderness mountain woman in the Canadian Rockies. Only a year ago, she found her little brother who was adopted away from the family as an infant 54 years ago and is just getting to know him. Her grand-daughters are still so young and have much to learn from her influence.

She and her family are asking for your help during this difficult time. They know first hand that money is tight and every day is a struggle to put food on the table, to pay the bills, to make ends meet. But, if you could spare even just $5 toward this cause, it will make a world of difference.

Ilona and her daughter have already been working on plans to build a "tiny house" on wheels so that Ilona could retire "in style", having a warm, comfortable, safe home that is her own and reminiscent of her cabin in the woods, but closer to a village and services. A tiny home is affordable and can easily be moved if required by any change in circumstance of a person on a fixed income.

Our goal of $60,000 (Canadian funds) represents a medical invoice for post-surgical recovery, cancer immunotherapy, detoxification, and convalescence, plus transportation costs to and from hospitals, and medicines not covered by insurance, followed by the cost of relocating and building a new tiny home, etc. In lieu of cash, anyone interested in donation of a dual-axle float trailer and building materials is urged to get in touch.

Please share this story with your family and friends, via Facebook or another avenue. Feel free to reach out to us and ask questions, should you like to get to know Ilona better, perhaps send your message of hope, or share your own cancer experience.

Your LOVE is appreciated and felt by your kind gesture. May the Great Spirit guide and protect you. Megwiich.
