Finally there is an off road bike available in Nepal where Chandra can touch the floor! New to Nepal this bike is powerful and has a large gas tank, which will allow Chandra and our staff to travel further, more quickly and more safely to many of the remote areas we work. Your donations will go solely towards the purchase of the motorbike.
Chandra and Jo Gurung have been carrying hope to the mountain peoples of Nepal for over 16 years. Jo is from the Uk and Chandra is from Nepal. We have been married for 10 years, have 2 children and live in Kathmandu, Nepal. The areas we work are between 7-21 days walk from the nearest road at elevations up to 12,000ft. We need help getting higher than a bus or off- road vehicle can go so we can begin walking! Instead of being away for many weeks and still only getting to spend a few days in the villages we are working, with this bike Chandra will be able to shorten his travel time and be able to maximise time spent in the villages and with his family!
Founded by Chandra in 2008, our Nepali NGO, Mercy Now, has worked with remote mountain communities to help bring sustainable community transformation through providing eduation opportunities, community development and clean water projects. Travel to these remote areas is difficult, expensive and many times dangerous (try sitting on a local bus on unmade mountain track in Monsoon!). Having an off road bike, that is safe for Chandra to travel on, will allow us to reach more people in a shorter amount of time. The bike will primarily be used to provide Chandra access the work our NGO is involved in and open up new mountain areas for the NGO to work in. We also have been able to respond to crisis situations through our network of national contacts. Just last month our team were able to respond to the devastating flooding in the South of Nepal and were able to provide emergency relief for over 500 families who had lost everything. That time we were able to borrow a bike for Chandra to travel, we would love to be able to have this bike to be ready to respond whenever the need arises.
October and November this year is Festival season in Nepal meaning there are the greatest discounts available for buying this motorbike during this time of the year.
