Mosaic needs your help to preserve the future of journalism.
Founded in 1993, the Mosaic High School Journalism Workshop is a two-week summer training program sponsored by The Mercury News that has given hundreds of high school students a close-up, hands-on look at professional journalism. After learning media literacy and critical thinking, many of our alumni now work as media professionals throughout the country.
In a time when the need for quality reporting has grown, high school journalism programs are vanishing — particularly in schools serving underrepresented communities. The program is entirely free to students, and for many, is the only given chance to learn about the world of journalism while attending high school.
This year’s Mosaic workshop is taking place June 10 through June 21 at SJSU. We’re serving 20 students, mostly from Downtown and East San Jose, to be taught by professional reporters, editors and photographers. Mosaic is also sponsored by the CCNMA/Latino Journalists of California.
The students work each day in SJSU’s Spartan Daily newsroom, hitting the streets of Silicon Valley to cover issues and trends that matter to them and other teens.
