Morehouse OFF-Campus Student Housing Relief Fund

This fund will help relieve housing and other educational expenses for hundreds of off-campus students not receiving equitable support and left in the lurch by Morehouse College. The annual student budget or cost of attendance is approximately $50,000.

These hard-working students were offered (and accepted) scholarships to attend the private university, only to find out midway through the semester that they would have to pay those scholarships back if they received funds from other sources like outside scholarships and even student loans. In other words, if a 'scholarship' student wants to take out a student loan to cover external housing expenses, they would have to take out enough to cover repayment of the 'scholarship' to Morehouse as well.

Morehouse does NOT have enough housing for all of its students to live on campus. If you're living on campus, Morehouse keeps and benefits from all the money, so those students aren't impacted. For those NOT residing on campus, Morehouse must be paid back their scholarship award and then they will give the students whatever is left, if anything, to cover their housing and other education-related expenses.

It's been a nightmare for the students and parents.. many of those affected are in dire straits and will be unable to pay their rent in November. Some could even face immediate eviction and be forced to dropout.
