My friend, a fellow-priest, met her while she was getting help from a food bank. She is a PhD student in science at the University of Manitoba – a single parent with two teenage sons. And, she’s an immigrant to Canada from South America. Lately she flew, at her own expense, back to her country of origin to see her elderly father, who is rapidly declining in advanced dementia, and she now video-chats every day with his caregivers, for she has legal authority over his care. Expenses are piling up. And debt. I offered to start this GoFundMe to help her. Money raised will be administered by my colleague – supporting her wherever and however appropriate. Working through us two clergy is a deliberate “double-blind,” to protect the woman’s privacy. I do not know her. My colleague does, and I know that he is a wise pastor. He will give me occasional updates which I will post through GoFundMe. Will you join us in helping this woman? All she will know is that the Church helped her when things were tough.
