Everybody meet Moose.
Moose is my year and a half old Great Dane who has recently been diagnosed with Cervical Spondylomyelopathy. More commonly known as Wobblers Syndrome. This syndrome is when the vertebrae in the neck aren’t lined up and causes them to pinch the spinal cord affecting all aspects of mobility.
This is Moose’s story:
Over the past couple months I had noticed something off with my boy. At first I thought it was just him being a silly, clumsy puppy. But as the weeks went on things started to change. He was having trouble standing up and would be very wobbly on his feet once he did manage to get up. Then he started to fall when he turned corners, or switched which way he was walking. His bum would fall to the ground without any warning while standing up. I was getting concerned and thought a vet visit was in need. So I brought my guy down to our family vet clinic to get a professional opinion.
Initially we thought it could be a strain or sprain wearing him down, so we put him on anti-inflammatories for a week to see if it would improve his mobility and relieve some pain.
It didn't.
Over the next few weeks his condition started rapidly decreasing. He would drag his feet causing cuts and road rash all over the tops of his paws and causing him to limp in pain and struggle to keep balance. He would be standing up and trip on his feet and fall straight to the ground and not be able to get back up, just staring at me saying “help.”
Moose can hardly stand up without assistance now and I had taken him to the vet for a further diagnosis, and was told that within 2-6 weeks he will most likely be in paralysis.
In order to fix my boy it is a spinal surgery involving fusing his vertebrae together in two different spots to align them and stop them from pinching his spinal cord.
It’s a minimum of $20,000 for the surgery if all goes smoothly.
My boy Moose is in pain and it’s a long, expensive road to recovery.
Please help me save my boy, he is everything to me.
