Moon Cat Cafe Recovery Fundraiser

Donation protected

As some of you may already know, the facility where Moon Cat Cafe was parked (for years without issue) was suddenly broken into three times over just the last week and a half.

Despite a barbed-wire gated fence, exterior lighting, and security cameras on-site, thieves figured out a way to get in and break into my truck, stealing nearly all merchandise and stripping anything of value (including the sales register and back-up driving camera).

On top of that, even after I added another steel cable combination lock, a homeless person broke one of the glass panels and squatted inside, leaving behind an utter mess, including discharging the fire extinguisher all over the interior, ruining the furnishings and what little merchandise remained.

I’m heartbroken and devastated, though at least grateful that nobody was hurt in the process. I’ve since filed a police report and moved the truck to a temporary location. I’m now in the process of locking down a new, more secure permanent parking solution.

While I do have property insurance that should cover the glass damage and loss of merchandise/furnishings, there is nothing left to sell online to help pay for ongoing expenses. (And until the pandemic is truly over, I cannot in good conscience hold any public or private events on board and risk the health of my visitors and rescue partners.)

I wish I didn’t have to ask for help, especially in such a tough economy, but I hope if Moon Cat Cafe has brought even a little bit of joy to you in the past, that you would kindly consider supporting its continuance.

To be fully transparent, the ongoing expenses that property insurance reimbursement does not cover include:

> First several months of rent for new parking location (est. $750)
> Electrician labor to wire and install new back-up driving camera (est. $350)
> Upcoming 6-month renewal of both auto and property insurance policies ($2.2K)
> Cleaning supplies (est. $50)
> Hopefully a little extra to give to my mechanic Mike, who came out right away to help check that the truck engine and battery weren’t tampered with, and helped me clean up exterior glass debris and tape up the empty pane, all while sweating under the hot sun. He refused to take a single cent.

Regardless of whether or not you can/wish to contribute, thank you so much for your support! It’s because of all of you that Moon Cat Cafe got this far and helped many incredible indie cat rescues along the way.

Best,
Janet
