Montie' s stroke recovery

Donation protected
My husband Montie Gatlin is a retired Grand Prairie Police Lieutenant .  On February 19, 2017, I took him to  Methodist Mansfield Hospital, he was admitted to ICU with pneumonia.  After 10 days in the ICU, they determined that he had had a massive stroke while he was sedated and intubated.  As a result of the stroke, the left side of his body is completely paralyzed.  At that point, our lives dramatically changed.  He spent the next six months in different rehab hospitals.  He finally was released and able to come home at the end of August (in time for his 80th Birthday) with home health care.   Still paralyzed  on his left side, he is unable to walk or stand by himself.  The only way he is able to go to see his doctors is non emergency transport which is very costly.  In searching for alternatives, I found a company, United Access,  that can convert our current vehicle to make it accessible for Montie to get in the vehicle.  They can install a power transfer chair that would transfer him in and out of the wheelchair to the vehicle.  The cost to do this is $7693 but is significantly less than purchasing a wheelchair accessible van.  Right now we see this as the best option to be able to get him out of the house.  Insurance or Medicare will not pay anything towards transportation, so we are asking for any help that anyone can give us.
