M&S 24 (2019) Paddle for Cancer Vancouver Island

Donation protected
YEAR 5!!   Saturday, April 13 - Sunday, April 14, 2019

TEAM VANCOUVER ISLAND

This is the second year for our team, a community of 24 Stand Up Paddleboarders of all levels who are so grateful to have the opportunity to give back to the larger community. When we are out on the water we are doing what we love, and if we can help families dealing with the chaos caused by a cancer diagnosis, our paddle becomes even more meaningful.

CANCER IS A TAKER!!

It wants everything from us - our health our confidence, our families. And it is relentless. Statistics say 1 in 3 people will arm wrestle with cancer.

But what about the other 2 people?

Our job is to stand in the gap. Fill that void with love, compassion and our ability to GO when our friends can’t.

This is what Monster and Sea is all about.

What cancer can’t touch is our spirit, our drive and our will to live every day to its fullest potential. A brand built to inspire communities to give back in a very grass roots way.

At our core, we believe three very key things.

1. Help families who are dealing with cancer.
2. Inspire people and communities to not let life pass them by. Get going - do the things you love.
3. Have fun.

An Invitation

We invite everyone to come join in this event.  Join the team (paddle any type of water craft), paddle with us  for part of the event, cheer us on from the docks,  or donate if you feel so inclined. We would love to have our amazing paddling community join us on the water!  If you don’t paddle but would still like to show your support, just come down to one of these locations and say hi, and help us keep the stoke going for 24 hours all in an effort to raise some much needed funds.

Please join us:

Location:  Pacifica Paddle Sports in Brentwood Bay, BC.
Start:          Saturday,  April 13th  8:00 AM
Finish:        Sunday,  April 14th  8:00 AM

For questions and information contact:  Pam Martin  at [email redacted]

We feel privileged to be a part of this incredible opportunity to help, and would love to share the stoke with you!

This spring, on April 13th and 14th, there again will be teams paddling in cities across the US and Canada.  Where does the money go?  We give out all of our donations in $1000 increments to a person or family in need and how it's used is for the them to decide.  This isn’t about research, this isn’t about finding a cure, this doesn’t go to a charity.  This is cash, in an envelope, put in the hands of folks who need it.  It could help pay the utility bills, or buy some groceries, or maybe take the family away for a weekend to get a break from the chaos. Thank you everyone for your generous support; know that your donations are going to homes in need and that they make a real difference in people’s lives.

A sincere thank you from the Monster & Sea 24 Vancouver Island  2019 team!

HISTORY

In 2015 a group of 6 paddlers got together in Seattle with the idea of paddling for
24 hours relay style. Their goals were modest and simple. 1. Have fun. 2. Inspire their community 3. Raise some grass roots funds to help families dealing with the chaos that cancer causes.

They were blown away. Not only did they have fun and rally their community but they raised $7,000.00 by doing what they loved - to benefit others. 7 families each received an envelope of 1,000.00 cash with a simple note inside: “There is a community of people who love you and are fighting for you.”

The second year the 24 moved beyond Seattle to seven cities (one for each envelope from the prior year) across the U.S and Canada. Each team had the same goals. As a combined group they raised 50k. That is 50 families they were able to help.

The third year they grew to 22 teams across the U.S and Canada and after all was said and done - as a collective group  raised 145K.

The fourth year they grew to 26 cities with multipule teams across the U.S and Canada and after all was said and done - as a collective group raised 156K.

Seriously, it requires a double take every time. This community is wonderful.

A simple idea that grabs your heart.

And now year 5 - The wave is forming deep out in the ocean
and is gathering great momentum. Can’t wait to see where it takes us.
