Monroe Monty Bates

The world lost a wonderful man, April 13th to an unspeakable illness, but that is not his story.

Monroe’s life was full of so much love and joy. The impact he had on those that loved him will carry on.

Monroe was larger than life. While people may remember his physical stature, for those that loved him, we know his size was by design. His arms needed to be large to be able to wrap the ones he loved and to ensure them that everything would be okay. His shoulders needed to be high so even the biggest of men knew they too had a shoulder to cry on. Leaning on him was not a problem, because he was a rock and a solid foundation to those that needed to be propped up. He always had an ear to listen. Monty brightened up rooms and immediately lifted spirits. The biggest thing about Monty was his heart. It had to be, because most people aren’t capable of the love he had and so willingly shared.

Nothing was more important than family to Monty. A lover of all sports, he attended every game as the number one fan to his nieces and nephew. He found enjoyment in summer concerts and bonfires at his sister’s house, and he always looked forward to Wednesday Wing Night!

Monty was gentle. He learned one of his favorite hobbies from his Grandma Ramirez, crocheting blankets. It must have been a sight to see him crocheting with such delicacy.

Monty was so excited to be the only uncle to his sister Chaundra’s expected granddaughter this coming June. Although he won’t be there in body, we all know his spirit will be with us all until we meet him again.

When you love this much, there isn’t much regret to be had in your final days. Although he leaves us so abruptly, we know his love will continue.

This fundraiser is to help the family with necessary expenses that come with an untimely passing. This family is beyond humble and will use money raised for only the things they need. They want Monty’s legacy to live on, so anything received in excess of what is absolutely needed will go towards a scholarship in his name. This way, future generations can be impacted by this wonderful man and the generosity of those who loved him.
