Monologue, a love story feature

THE FILM

“Monologue” is a narrative feature film told in a unique way.  Instead of normal dialogue scenes, the story unfolds entirely as a voice-over inner monologue as the main character remembers a relationship that changed her life forever.  It’s a love story about two everyday people, but more importantly, who we all are as humans; how we experience and process love, hate, anger, loss, and redemption; how we overcome the bad times — and the good ones, too — to learn about our own identity; and how we endure the harsh realities life throws at all of us.  It’s girl meets boy, girl loses boy, girl — well, we have to make the film for you to find out what happens next.

The unique idea of telling an entire story in monologue is novelistic in approach, allowing us to live inside the head of our main character as she reflects and offers insight on the events we see unfolding visually.  It gives us perspective on things we see or encounter or experience everyday, and shows us that people are much more than what we see outwardly.  It’s high concept yet small and intimate, something we see less and less of these days as Hollywood blockbusters get less personal and more computer generated.

Funds raised will pay the cast and crew, feed them, rent necessary gear we don't have, pay for festival submissions, and allow us to spend the required time away from our jobs to craft and create this film experience. We are looking to shoot in April, which is coming up fast! We plan to have the film finished in time for submission to Sundance, which is late August/early Sept.

For anyone who's known me for any length of time, and especially the ones who go way back, you know that film has always been a passion of mine. Supporting this project will literally make a dream come true. It has elements of many of the filmmakers I love: Ingmar Bergman, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Terrence Malick, and even a tiny bit of David Lynch thrown in for good measure. This idea, this story, and this vision has been in my head for over 15 years, and by helping support this film, I can finally give it back, and hopefully, it will resonate in yours for the next 15.

Thank you,
Chad Duerksen

THE CAST

Andrea Flowers
Now based in Los Angeles, Andrea Flowers was born and raised in Austin, TX. And yes, she is a bit of a flower child. From the ripe age of 4, she was releasing bugs outside, hugging trees and using the fireplace hearth as her stage.  Andrea graduated with a BFA in Acting from Southern Methodist University and is celebrating her 2nd year as an LA local.  You can catch her in the current season of Married With Secrets, a future episode of My Crazy Ex, and the feature films Little Notes to Heaven (streaming on PureFlix), and Seven Hundred Miles (coming to most streaming services May 2018).

She is extremely humbled to work on Monologue, and considers this particular role a great acting challenge.  She'd like to thank her stud mathematician boyfriend for showing her unconditional love and her parents for their constant support. And for giving her a unique pronunciation for a first name.  Andrea (On-dree-Uh) is pronounced like the end of the word "Mitochondria". Which if you remember high school biology, is the powerhouse of a cell.

Velizar Ionikov
Velizar Ionikov was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, before moving to Chicago at age 6. Having fallen in love with The Exorcist at a very young age, Velizar knew acting was meant for him. In 2016, he packed everything and moved 2,000 miles to California, a dream he’d known forever. Having done films sporadically, Velizar is ready for the next phase; becoming a full time working actor.  Since moving to LA he has been enormously welcomed with an amazing community of friends and coworkers. With deep rooted love for the art, acting is an affair that will continue through time. Having a few projects in the works, next you can see Velizer in the upcoming web series “Before Part VIII...”

Hailey Harris
Hailey Harris was born in Memphis, TN and began performing at a young age. She has studied acting and singing in Nashville and NYC. After performing in many theater productions and films, Hailey moved with her family to Los Angeles to pursue her acting dreams. She studies with famed acting coach, Max A. Decker, and Tyler Neitzel.

THE CREW

Chad Duerksen (Writer/Editor/Producer/Director)
Chad holds a B.A. in cinema from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.  He grew up in Lubbock, TX, and lived in Austin for a number of years before finally moving to Los Angeles in 2003.  An avid film buff his entire life, he first gained recognition for winning Best Screenplay for “My Life in Pictures” at 2000’s WINfemme Film Festival in Los Angeles. Soon after, he co-founded the CANNED! Film Festival in Austin TX, which he helped run for 2 years.  After moving to Los Angeles in 2003, he worked primarily as a photographer, shooting for numerous commercial brands, catalogues, and celebrities such as Ice Cube and Amber Heard.  He later joined up with CM Films, and with them has worked as director of photography and editor on several documentary projects, including the web series “Every Thing Will Be Alright” and the acclaimed doc “Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow: The Futurism of Walt Disney” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwLznNpJz2I). He recently shot and edited “A Seed of Wisdom: The Riosbo Ayahuasca Research Center" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQR5Tku1Iuc&t=3s) on location in the rainforests of Iquitos, Peru.  As a screenwriter, he has developed projects through Magnet Management and BenderSpink agency.  He lives in Los Angeles with his wife Laura and more than a couple of cats.

Jen White (Director of Photography/Producer)
Jen has been running around with a camera stuck to her face since the age of twelve. A photography merit badge in Girl Scouts sparked her love of film and light, which grew to include filmmaking and led her to study cinematography at Columbia College Chicago. She has been shooting union and non-union scripted, documentary, music video, and commercial subjects on film and digital for the last sixteen years and is a member of the International Cinematographers Guild Local 600. Her work has appeared on CNN, Showtime, PBS, A&E, The Food Network, and Discovery, among others, as well as numerous film festivals including SXSW, HotDocs, and OutFest. She currently hangs her light meter in Los Angeles and is happy to travel. When she’s not working, she can usually be found at a Pearl Jam concert. With a camera, of course.

Shie Rozow (Composer/Music Editor)
Born in Israel, composer and music editor Shie Rozow (pronounced shy ro-zov) has taken a different path than most, leading him to work on major international blockbusters including AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, HUSTLE & FLOW, and 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS.  After completing Berklee’s four-year program in just five semesters (“being broke is a great incentive,” he explained), Shie graduated and moved to Los Angeles. His tenacity would earn him a job as Composer, Music Supervisor, and Music Editor at Alan Ett Music Group (now part of Spirit Music Group). In the years he worked there, Shie was responsible for over 650 hours of television music for series including INTIMATE PORTRAIT, BIOGRAPHY, HYSTORY’S MYSTERIES, and MODERN MARVELS. He also wrote music for the in-house music library.  Though his career in music editing was taking off, Shie continued to write music, often adding additional music for movies or TV (including the hit series DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES), writing for music libraries, for documentary and feature film productions. His scoring credits include John Singleton’s series REBEL, the indie feature #FOLLOWFRIDAY, the documentary DEAR MR. PRESIDENT and the award-winning indie feature JASMINE.  Guided by his inner voice, Shie was inspired to write and record music this time for himself. The album, Musical Fantasy, was released by 4Tay Records on May 20, 2016 and includes Expedition for String Quartet, which received its debut performance by The Lyris Quartet at a concert for the Contemporary Performance Collective and its New York premiere by the Amernet Quartet.
