Don protégé
Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted supporters,
We are reaching out on behalf of our beloved Monica, who has recently received a life-altering diagnosis of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) on June 3, 2025. Her diagnosis came suddenly and unexpectedly after a difficult fall during a move on April 29, 2025, which led to her being placed in an assisted living facility for over two weeks. Without a confirmed diagnosis at the time, Monica was discharged and went to live with her brother while waiting for her apartment to be adapted for her new daily needs.
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Over time, it causes loss of muscle control, making it increasingly difficult to walk, speak, eat, and eventually breathe. There is no known cure, and care needs can become extensive and costly as the disease progresses.
Over the past year, Monica began noticing troubling changes in her health. In August of 2024, she started losing her ability to clearly speak and assumed it was a throat or vocal cord issue, or perhaps simply due to aging. Sadly, it was the early signs of ALS.
This progressive disease has rapidly impacted Monica’s mobility and independence. She can no longer walk without an assistive device, and her need for help with daily care has increased drastically. While home care services have been arranged, they are not enough to meet the growing demands of her condition.
On July 16, 2025, Monica suffered another fall and was readmitted to the hospital. Doctors are now recommending full-time care in a skilled nursing facility, but the cost is overwhelming. Monica’s family and friends have been doing all they can, but round-the-clock care is beyond what we can provide alone.
We have applied for disability benefits on her behalf, but as many know, that process can take months—time Monica simply doesn’t have right now.
We are humbly asking for your help.
Your donation will go directly toward Monica’s:
*Skilled nursing facility costs
*Mobility and accessibility equipment
*Daily living support services
*Transportation and care-related needs
As we rally around her physically, we’re also doing our best to lift her spirits. We’ve been talking with her about her favorite concerts and her beloved Funko Pop collection, things that bring her joy and spark her personality. Although speaking has become difficult, Monica is doing her best to communicate by writing and texting—staying connected with the people and memories that matter most to her.
Every dollar brings us closer to ensuring that Monica receives the compassionate and comprehensive care she deserves. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this campaign with others who may be able to help.
Monica has always been someone who showed up for others. Now it’s our turn to show up for her.
With love and deep gratitude,
Friends & Family of Monica
