Help Monica Martinez #474 fight ALS
Don protégé
Amount has been edited due to recent information regarding her job.
The picture of Monica and I is from 2019 when we worked a dear friend’s wedding and photo bombed her photo book. LOL
My name is Shawna Rangel; I have worked with Monica Martinez for almost 20 years. Monica has been with the Comal County Sheriff's Office since 1999. She started out as a "turnkey" in the jail. That position was done away with about 5 years after and turned into a Correction's Officer position. To stay employed with the CCSO she was required to get her C/O license, which she did.
Monica continued working in the jail and attended San Antonio College Basic Peace Officer Academy. Monica lost her daddy the year she got promoted to a Transport Deputy in 2012.
I will never forget how proud we all were, but the one thing she wanted most was for her daddy to see her finally achieve her dreams.
2023 makes 11 years Monica has now been with the Transport Section at the CCSO. She loves her job and her co-workers. We are a very close family.
2 years ago Monica began having trouble with her speech. After 2 long years of testing, multiple doctors and doctor's appointments she finally had an answer to her speech issues and was given the worst news she could possibly imagine.
Doctors told Monica she may never be able to wear the uniform she wore so proudly for 25 years. She may never be able to work in the same capacity dealing with people that she might have to defend herself against.
On April 20, 2023; Monica was diagnosed with ALS-Chronic Neurodegenerative Disorder.
Monica cannot retire just yet and her medical bills are piling up even with her insurance. When she finally can retire, she will have to pay for insurance on her own, and we all know how expensive that is.
Monica is having to change positions with the Sheriff's Office if one is even available and her salary will decrease drastically.
Monica would never ask for a handout or help, she is way too proud and hard headed as hell. She wants to work, she loves her County, and she is fighting this terrible disease with everything in her even knowing there is no cure.
I am asking everyone to just give little because a little goes such a very long way and adds up. These funds will help Monica pay medical bills, which are now never ending, her house and her car payment when she is out of work. These funds will support her for 3 months without a job if need be. That’s the goal.
If you see her, give her a hug and thank you all for giving if you can.
