Monica Cantu Memorial at Cal Poly

Monica Cantu was a child, a sister, a partner, a friend and/or colleague who was a senior Manager at Cal Poly.   Monica was known for, putting others before herself, and even in her final moments she was giving aid to a victim of a wrong way crash when tragedy struck and another motorist lost control and Monica was killed.

Monica's sister once said “Those that knew her, knew that her light was great. You just wanted to be with her.”  I don't think anyone could ever disagree with this statement.  At her memorial people came up to me and said I just knew she was such a great human being.  I wanted so much to be her friend.  Or she taught me so much in so little time.  She not only gave to family members, friends, colleagues and strangers, but she also saved and rescued animals.  She cared for owls that had fallen from a tree, hawks and baby birds just to name a few.  There was never a time she said no.

Jude Fledderman, executive director of facility operations at Cal Poly once said “I can not come up with a time where she did not put the needs of another or others, above her own,” And it is now her time for us to put Monica's needs above ours.  We all need a place to remember, reflect and feel the spirit of Monica.  A memorial Bench has already been approved.  It is now up to us to honor such a loving caring individual. Please help us make this happen.
