Mona the Cat's Teeth Surgery

My name is Patrick Tuohey and the black and white photos in this story are of Mona (Mona Lisa) who is the sweetest cat I've ever met. She's a Tuxedo cat, with an adorable white mustache who lays on my lap whenever I visit, gets along surprisingly well with her canine housemates and even wags her tail whenever she's being pet as if she was part dog!
Mona has many funny quirks including a need to crawl under the bedsheets to create her own personal fort and snores just about as loud as I do! She's also very photogenic and kindly let me snap these pictures of her lounging around the house to help further my portrait skills. Her "Cat Mom" Morgan is my beautiful significant other who always makes certain Mona is thoroughly loved and healthy.
Sadly, Morgan returned home yesterday to find that Mona had dislodged a tooth after eating. The past couple weeks Mona has stuck mostly to soft food, which appeared to be a mere change in taste and nothing to be alarmed by. After rushing to the vet immediately following the discovery of the broken canine tooth, it turns out Mona has suddenly developed a bacterial infection in her mouth which has attacked multiple teeth, explaining the soft-food-only behavior.
On top of the lost canine tooth, it's been discovered 5 other teeth are now rotted, abscessed and infected. 10 days on antibiotics will help clear up the infection, however, the now decaying teeth have to be surgically removed. The antibiotic treatment and surgery have to be done as soon as possible to guarantee the infection doesn't enter Mona's bloodstream potentially causing sepsis
Not only is Morgan the most kindhearted cat owner I've ever met, but she's also an active nursing assistant who is supporting herself through school. She's understandably crushed by the news that Mona is in need of surgery, both as a "Cat Mom" and as a nurse-to-be who's deeply passionate about the health and well-being of all those around her. The surgery and antibiotic treatment is anything but small change for an independent woman like Morgan who is faced with many living expenses while also trying to give Mona the best possible life a cat can have.
My goal is to raise $1,400.00 total to guarantee Mona's quick and effective recovery and to keep Morgan from struggling with the currently unreachable costs associated. The $1,400.00 breaks down as follows:
- $1,200.00 for the surgery and antibiotics for Mona
- $150 to account for online donation transaction fees as well as NYS tax on the antibiotics and surgery procedure
- $50 for transportation costs to deliver Mona to surgery and return her safely home
If I could singlehandedly cover these expenses, I would in a heartbeat. Not only is Morgan the love of my life who keeps me grounded, but Mona has provided both of us so much joy and comfort. Happy or sad, laughing or crying, Mona makes sure that she's always front-and-center to join us.
