My Mom's Fight For Stroke Recovery

Tuesday, July 8th, 2014, was the worst day of my life. It was a regular morning and my mom was vibrant as always. She did her daily routine as she got ready for work. I remember her coming in my room with my cat and dog and laying next to me while we talked about my graduation party. She got up from my bed and proceeded to get ready in her own room. In the matter of a heartbeat she had a major blood clot lodged in the left hemisphere of her brain, causing her to have a stroke. Having known the signs from her previous stroke in 2009, I called 911 immediately. My mom was completely conscious but unable to speak or move. It was utter chaos as my dad sped home from work and my brother frantically made phone calls. She was transported via ambulance to a local hospital and from there she was transported to a more prestigious hospital where their primary care was for strokes.

As of today, it is unknown how much damage was truly done by the stroke, if she'll ever fully recover or what caused it. She is in a medically induced coma, has a feeding tube and is on a ventilator. She will be in the intensive care unit (ICU) for months to come. With that being said, the medical bills are going to be very extensive. The donations received will go towards the bills, transportation, and other miscellaneous expenses.

My mom is the most selfless, caring, and passionate person I know. She would do anything in her power for someone else, even if it was taking her own shirt off her back. She was an avid animal lover and adopted countless pets. She is known by many and cherished by every person she has met. She lights up any room she enters and it's truly devastating that something this tragic could happen to such a wonderful person. She does everything with love and grace and has always been optimistic. My mom is very family oriented and has very good morals. Up until the accident she worked two jobs, during the weekdays was at a school for foster kids and on the weekends was at a local winery. We all love her very much and any donation will be helpful.

Thank you,
Taylor Pike, daughter of Kristine.
