Mold-Free Home to Fight Lung Cancer

Donation protected
Cancer sucks! The beautiful woman in the profile picture has been a mother-figure to Krystal and I since we were 12 years old.  She is a wife and mother of her own 4 children: 2 in high school and 2 in college.  About 18 months ago, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer.  Since then, she has undergone multiple chemo treatments and total brain radiation to fight the metastasized cells.  Unfortunately the cancer continues to spread.

Now, many of you have been supporters of family/friends in dire situations and you know that feeling all too well when you wonder how you can help.  We cannot help our mom fight cancer, but we can help make her life easier so she can fight the good fight.

Krystal and I go as often as we can to help clean and take care of the house. During one trip, I found mold in numerous spots in the kitchen and in the upstairs bathroom.  How can we have mold in the house with a Lung Cancer patient?!  As it turns out, the money situation is much worse than we ever knew and these type of repairs were 1) expensive and 2) not the priority in the minds of a family in this battle.

We've all been there.  The time when something that needs to get done sits somewhere in the back of your mind until one day you realize this has gotten out of hand...and you can't handle it on your own.  I fixed the leak under the sink and replaced the rotten wood, but let me tell you, there is still plenty of work to be done!

I'm asking for donations to fund replacing the kitchen and upstairs bathroom directly above the kitchen:

1)  The kitchen cabinetry is falling apart with some non-functional components.  The countertop is old, moldy, small tiles that are broken and coming apart from the grout.  The flooring is water logged from the leaky sink and thus also coming apart.

2) The upstairs bathroom has a small leak somewhere that has worn through the flooring, subflooring, and then the ceiling of the kitchen.  Over time this has also caused a substantial mold problem and I'm afraid has also compromised the stability of the floor.

Both rooms are complete renovation projects and I'm confident I can get enough volunteers to help with the construction, but the funding of parts is another story.  This isn't about getting mom a luxury kitchen and bathroom, it's about a family's functionality and safe space.

I'll be honest, mom probably doesn't have too much time to spend in these new rooms, but having a mold-free home should be a basic necessity.  Together we can help her breathe a little bit easier without the mold, we can help her live a little more peacefully without one more thing to worry about, and we can give her a little more peace of mind knowing her family has a safe place to call home.

If you could be so kind as to donate even the smallest bit, it would be greatly appreciated.  Remember: anything helps.

Thank you all so much!
