On January 19, 2015 Sam and Alicia were blessed with a healthy baby girl, Ellie Lynn Ferguson. Just as they were packing their bags and prepping the car seat to take Ellie home, her final exam at the hospital revealed her breathing was off, she was breathing faster than she should have been. Immediately they took her down to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to be examined further. This exam confirmed that she did in fact have some breathing inconsistencies, as well as a low grade fever. Ellie was given some breathing treatments and put on a ten day antibiotic. Ten long days at St. Joseph Medical Center went by, Ellie’s breathing was back to normal now, and she was healthy enough to go HOME!!!
Ellie was home a mere five days, when Alicia noticed she was starting to get a stuffy nose. At first thought, oh a stuffy nose, no big deal, but for a 14 day old, this is a BIG deal! They called the doctor, who said to see how it was the next morning, if it got worse, take her to the hospital immediately! With that being said, they had a close watchful eye on Ellie. The next day came when suddenly Sam noticed her stuffy nose had gotten worse and it appeared she was having a hard time breathing. Sam, being a local firefighter, took her down to the station to be examined by the paramedics. The medics advised that they needed to take her to the hospital right away. Not wanting to take any chances, Sam and Ellie jumped in the ambulance and were raced to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma, Alicia following right behind them. They immediately started giving her tests at the Emergency Room where they were pretty quick to diagnose baby Ellie with Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). Back to the NICU she goes, with the statement that she is going to get worse before she gets better.
Over two weeks later now, here we are, February 17th, Ellie is still in the hospital, and has been though a lot; ventilators, antibiotics, pick lines, blood transfusions, etc., and Sam and Alicia have been by her side through it all. The virus is running its course, which could take weeks, the doctor says, but Ellie is a strong baby girl and is on her way to a full recovery and we pray will be going home soon.
This past month has been quite the ride for Sam, Alicia, Ava and Ellie not only emotionally, but financially as well. This family is loved greatly, and so many people have been asking how they can help, so I decided to setup this page for them. All that is raised will go directly to them to cover the unexpected expenses they are incurring, like the daily trips to the hospital, the missed work, and the hospital bills that are still piling up. Any little thing is greatly appreciated and prayers for baby Ellie are always welcome.
