As I’m sure you’ve all noticed, the town’s Christmas lights have not fared well over the past few years and unfortunately, the time has come for them to be replaced. Our previous lights did not cope well with the Irish climate and the increasing level of storms in recent years so we are on the hunt for suitable new ones. Many lessons have been learnt and we are going back to a local company that we used previously who have a rock-solid reputation for reliability.
We have secured a €40,000 like for like funding grant from Cork County Council which means that every euro we raise will be matched by the Council, therefore the success of this year's fundraising is hugely important. We will of course be appealing to the entire business community, but we also need your help.
We see this as an extremely important community project and hope to get all of the community involved in some way or another. We have secured the support of the primary schools in the town, the local Men’s Shed and we also hope to bring in local youth groups, sports clubs etc.
Obviously, we’ll to cut our cloth accordingly if we do not meet our target but we have already ordered much of the new lighting and it all needs to be paid for.
We have a team assembled who are already hard at work but it is a mammoth task therefore a donation of any size will make a difference and will be very much appreciated.
