Mark's Medical Fund

Cancer. A word that you don't really understand until it has affected someone you love.

As many of you have heard, last fall my dad, Mark Boshears, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Mantle Cell Lymphoma, a blood cancer. It is the rarest of the non-Hodgkin's lymphomas and currently does not have a cure.

For those of you who have been lucky enough to know my dad, you know that he is the most loving and helpful person. He would do anything for a friend in need, whether that is helping remodel someone's kitchen or driving across town to deliver a forgotten stuffed animal.

Fortunately, I was able to be home during Christmas break for two of his chemotherapy treatments, and was able to spend time with him and our new shelter puppy, Jenna who has been keeping him company while I am away at school.

My dad works as a Retail Operation's Manager for Peterkort Property Management which requires him to be physically healthy in order to maintain his properties.
Being the fighter he is, he has been able to work part time in between these treatments, despite the harsh side effects of treatment.

In about a month he will arrive at the Oregon Health and Science University, in Portland, OR to receive his (hopefully) final treatment which is an autologous Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, which basically creates a brand new immune system for him.

Mark will have to be on medical leave for about 2-3 months after this procedure, and during this time my family will have no income.

We have been lucky to have such wonderful friends who have supported all of us through this hard time, with meals, hospital visits, and love.

Although nothing near the full amount needed for medical expenses, this money will help cover some of the basic expenses of the past treatments.

Hopefully by this time next year Mark will be in remission and back fishing on the Deschutes river with his buddies and going on walks with Jenna.

Myself, my parents, my brother Michael, and our dog and cat, Jenna and Callie, (and fish Octavius!), thank you all for your love and support, and prayers are always welcome.
